Sadler's Wells artistic director, Alistair Spalding, commissioned four associate choreographers to respond 'in the spirit of Diaghilev' in the centenary year of the founding of the Ballets Russes. The programme includes Wayne McGregor's Dyad 1909, Russell Maliphant's Afterlight, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's Faun, and Javier de Frutos' Eternal Damnation. Each choreographer responds in his signature way, making for an interesting programme. McGregor's latest work is an idiosyncratically inscrutable work, dedicated to the memory of Merce Cunningham. The season is a highlight of the contemporary ballet season.
